Our musical seniors will be performing in their last concert on May 1st at PHS. We will be honoring our seniors. Please come out and support these outstanding seniors.  The Pana High School Choir had a stellar year of music making!  They performed for the community at the Demonstration Concert, the Sounds of the Season Concert, Hickory Estates, PHS Basketball Games, the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade, the Music in Our Schools Recital, and the Spring Honors Concert.  In the fall, we had seven students (Nicole Arkebauer, John Berns, Cayden Hankins, Gabriella Heinrich, Em Mendenhall, Emma Stephens, and Madison Wehrle) selected for the ILMEA District Concert and Jazz Choirs.  From that, two students were selected to attend ILMEA All-State in January:  Emma Stephens was in the Honors Choir, and John Berns was in the All State Vocal Jazz Choir.  John Berns was also chosen as a IHSA National Anthem Soloist and performed at the Boys' Basketball Championship in March.  Many of the students took part in the wildly successful Pana Panther Showcase.  The choir and soloists also performed at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest, where they earned 12 Superior ratings and 1 Excellent rating.  In April, the choir performed at the IHSA Organizational Contest where they earned 3 straight Division I (Superior) ratings.  Finally, the students very much enjoyed having Student Teacher Mrs. Roberts with them during the Spring Semester.  Mrs. Chase is very proud of their accomplishments!

Monday Mrs Ruppert's Animal Science and Mrs Perry's Horticulture students traveled to St Louis for a tour day at the St Louis Zoo & Botanical Gardens. We had a great day connecting things learned in class, experiencing new environments and having great discussion all day with experts and together as a group. Mrs Rupperts Animal Science class spent a portion of the morning at Stingray cove for the touch experience. Students talked with the care takers about identification of various rays, feeding & breeding management, general care & life span. Students also had an afternoon interview with the zoo vet liaison where they got to learn more about management and care of the animals, protocol for emergencies, sickness plans, breeding management and overall animal life at the zoo. Mrs Perry’s Horticulture class spent the first half of the day at the Botanical Gardens. Students toured the grounds and identified a lot of plants and flowers learned in class. They got to see a variety of flowers in bloom, discuss the seasons for those that were not, viewed various landscape designs and structures. They later met up with animal science at the zoo to tour around the grounds for the afternoon. Great group of students and was a perfect day for our outside tours and visits.
