6th Grade Reading and Language Arts Students have been busy reading and learning about the impact of Title IX on women's sports. After reading the graphic novel "Hoops" students have been comparing and contrasting the stories told in the book to the real life stories from women in Pana. This week, students were able to hear first hand experiences from long-time teacher, coach, and athletic director - Ms. Carol Schramm. Students also had the opportunity to listen to some of the first female athletes in Pana including Mary Cothern, Cindy Miles, Jennie Jones, and Nancy Voudrie. Additionally, students heard from a more recent female athlete - Lainey Hicks. Students are proud to conclude that the experiences concerning girls sports in Pana has been a very positive and successful experience in comparison to other schools around the U.S. Students will be conducting their own interviews to continue hearing and learning first hand accounts of the effect of Title IX on women in sports.
