Parent/Guardian:

Homework is important and students who complete homework usually do better in school. Homework also promotes self-discipline and can assist in developing organizational skills. Too often, however, students view homework as punishment and arguments over homework lead to a power struggle between parents and children.

Jefferson Middle School staff is focusing on the positive and offering a homework incentive program entitled:

"Tags of Achievement"

Students will have the opportunity to collect 4 tags throughout the school year: (2 per semester) and will be recognized for competing and returning homework assignments/projects byt he due date. At the end of each 9 weeks grading period, eligible students will receive a tag and the following incentives will be as follows:

At the conclusion of the First Semester, if a student has earned:

1 Tag:                 Popcorn, movie at school
2 Tags:                  Pizza Party at Pizza Man (durin students designated lunch time)

At the conclusion of the Second Semester, if a student has earned:

3 Tags:              Movie at a local theatre
4 Tags:                Trip to Taylorville YMCA

School personnel will chaperone and the school will pay the admission for each event.
Students will not be rewarded at the conclusion of the second semester if they have only 1 or 2 tags.

This program will be in addition to the many positive reinforcement programs that are offered at Jefferson Middle School as we guide our students into making choices based on good judgement and responsibility for academic achievement

Sincerely,

Ms Debra Zueck, Principal
