How to Apply: Applications must be submitted to______. Recipients will be announced and checks will be given directly to the school in the teacher's name by______. The projects are to be implemented from _____to______.

The Selection Process: Applications are evaluated anonymously by a review committee. (The information identifying the applicant and principal will be removed prior to referral to the committee)

The committee considers five factors in evaluating proposals: creativity, academic benefit to students, efficient use of funds, potential to motivate students, adaptablility of project for use by other teachers, and alignment to Illinois Learning Standards. An important consideration is to make the project as cost effective as possible so that more teachers may receive grants. Please give a concise but complete description of your project. (See Pana Foundation Worksheet)

Guidelines: The following guidelines should be considered when applying for a Pana Foundation Grant.

In order for evaluations to be more objective, do not mention you name in the written proposal.
Projects should directly involve students as much as possible. An audiovisual program developed for classroom use, for example, ideally should be written and produced by students.

Funds can be used to purchase equipment or to provide field trip transportation, but not when these are ends in themselves. Equipment and trips should be just one component of a well-planned unit of instruction.

Interdisciplinary or team-teaching projects and those that involve different age groups are accepted and encouraged.

Portions of grants can be used to compensate experts who come to work with student but not to pay public school teachers or staff.
